The SECO 03064480 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG432-M5 geometry, designed for precision metal removal on CNC lathes and boring applications. It carries the TK1501 manufacturer grade with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr for extended wear resistance at elevated cutting temperatures. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape, a neutral hand orientation, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.0315-inch corner radius. Four usable cutting edges per insert reduce tooling cost per edge. The M5 chip breaker geometry and chamfered-and-honed cutting edge style provide controlled chip flow across a range of feed rates and depths.
This insert is rated primarily for cast iron (ISO material code K, grades K10, K20, K30) and is also suitable for steel and stainless steel applications (ISO codes P and M). Multi-use application coverage includes turning, facing, and boring operations. The negative rake geometry and N clearance code (0-degree relief angle) are standard for use in rigid, positive-seat toolholders where heavy interrupted or continuous cuts are performed in production-volume environments. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling specialists in job shops and production facilities are the primary installers.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for CNMG432 series toolholders using clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods. Industry standard number CNMG432-M5 and ISO designation CNMG120408-M5 are the reference codes for confirming toolholder and seat compatibility. Verify seat geometry and chip breaker clearance before substituting grades.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and clamping procedure. Power down and lock out the spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket, seating surface, and clamping screw for wear or damage before installing a new edge. Do not use damaged or chipped inserts, as this can cause uncontrolled tool failure.
