Product Description

The SECO 03062817 is a VNMG332-M3 series indexable turning insert designed for metal cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr Duratomic coating, it delivers high wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials. The insert features a 35-degree diamond shape, a negative rake angle, and a chamfered and honed cutting edge with an M3 chip breaker geometry. With 4 cutting edges and a 1/32-inch corner radius, this insert balances material removal efficiency with edge stability during moderate to heavy turning passes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users.

This insert is suited for turning, facing, profiling, and back turning on cast iron as its primary workpiece material, with secondary suitability for steel and stainless steel. The M3 chip breaker geometry supports general-purpose medium-depth cuts. It is appropriate for both production and maintenance machining environments where consistent chip control and surface finish are required. The insert conforms to ANSI and ISO standards under ISO designation VNMG160408-M3 and industry standard number VNMG332-M3.

Key Features

  • CVD-applied Duratomic coating (TiCN, Al2O3, Cr) for elevated wear and heat resistance
  • 4 indexable cutting edges per insert maximize tool life economy
  • M3 chip breaker geometry supports turning, facing, profiling, and back turning
  • Chamfered and honed cutting edge style reduces chipping on entry and exit
  • Compatible with clamp, pin, and lever lock insert holding methods
  • Negative rake, 0-degree relief angle for robust edge support on difficult materials

Compatibility

Designed for use in VNMG-style toolholders that accept a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert with clamp, pin, or lever lock holding. Suitable for toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO VNMG standards. Maximum depth of cut is 0.5748 inches.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the turret or toolpost de-energized before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for debris or damage before seating a new insert to ensure correct edge presentation and prevent premature failure.
