The 6-flute, right-hand spiral geometry runs at a medium 38-degree helix angle and is finished with an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) PVD coating for extended tool life at elevated cutting temperatures. This end mill is center-cutting and rated for both roughing and finishing operations, making it a versatile choice for machinists working in production and job-shop environments.
This end mill is suited for CNC milling centers and manual mills where close-pitch, multi-flute tooling is required to achieve fine surface finishes on ferrous and exotic workpiece materials. Designed for use with standard straight-bore toolholders accepting a 1-inch cylindrical shank. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium (material codes P, M, K, and S).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's runout and clamping torque specifications. Verify TIR at setup — the maximum specified TIR for this tool is 0.0005 inches; excess runout accelerates edge wear and degrades corner radius geometry. Ensure the shank is fully seated and clean before clamping. Confirm spindle speed, feed rate, and depth of cut against SECO published cutting data for the S638R series before first use.
