The SECO 02975079 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal removal in CNC and manual turning operations. It carries the industry standard designation TNMG432-M6 and is manufactured under the TP1501 grade with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — engineered for thermal resistance and wear life on steel and cast iron. The triangular insert geometry provides 6 usable cutting edges, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 0.031-inch corner radius, and a negative rake with 0-degree relief angle. The M6 chip breaker geometry targets medium-depth finishing and semi-finishing passes. Machinists and CNC operators in production shops are the primary users.
This insert is suited for external and internal turning applications including back turning, boring, facing, and general turning on steel and cast iron workpieces. It is particularly well matched to P10 and P20 material grade applications per ISO classification, and is also rated for hard materials under the H workpiece category. The maximum depth of cut reaches 0.787 inches, making it a capable option for both light finishing and moderate material removal rates. It complies with both ANSI and ISO standards, with the ISO designation TNMG220408-M6.
Designed for use in toolholders accepting TNMG-style inserts with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and M6 chip breaker designation. Compatible holding methods include clamp, pin, and lever lock systems. Rated for P10 and P20 steel grades and K-category cast iron as primary workpiece materials, with H-category hard materials as a secondary application.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque tool for the insert screw or clamping mechanism specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten by hand. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper edge presentation and safe operation.
