The SECO 02968211 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external and internal grooving operations on CNC turning centers and lathes. Carrying the manufacturer grade TGH1050 with a PVD-applied TiAlSiN coating, this double-ended insert delivers a 0.50 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.60 mm. The positive rake geometry at 6 degrees and FG chip breaker promote clean chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces. It is suited for machinists and tooling specialists working across a broad range of workpiece materials, including hardened steels, cast irons, non-ferrous alloys, and superalloys as indicated by the universal H, K, O, and S material codes.
This insert fits within SECO Series X4 grooving tooling systems and is intended for use in production turning environments where tight groove tolerances and consistent surface finish are required. The right-hand cutting orientation and ISO-standard sizing make it compatible with X4-series toolholders in typical CNC lathe setups. It is well suited for component shops, aerospace subcontractors, and general machining facilities running medium to high production volumes where insert longevity and chip control are priorities.
Designed for use with SECO Series X4 grooving toolholders accepting X4GKR-style inserts with insert size code 2503005. Consult SECO toolholder documentation to confirm seat and clamping compatibility before installation.
Installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate SECO torx or clamping key to secure the insert to the specified clamp torque listed in the toolholder documentation — do not overtighten by hand estimate. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating to ensure proper contact and runout.
