The SECO 02960988 is a CCMT-series indexable turning insert designed for precision metal removal in general turning, facing, and boring operations. Built from solid carbide and coated via CVD with a TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr Duratomic multilayer coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of ferrous workpiece materials. Key geometric specs include a 3/8-inch (0.3750 inch) inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch (0.0157 inch) corner radius, an 80-degree diamond shape, and a 7-degree relief angle. The M3 chip breaker geometry and chamfered-and-honed cutting edge suit medium-depth finishing and semi-finishing cuts. It carries two usable cutting edges and is screw-held in compatible toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC setup technicians are the primary installers.
This insert is intended for use on CNC lathes and machining centers in both job shop and production environments. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P classification), with secondary suitability for stainless steel (ISO M) and cast iron (ISO K). Material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35 cover a broad range of steel hardness and alloy types. The M3 chip breaker promotes reliable chip control during turning and boring passes at moderate feeds and depths. Maximum depth of cut reaches 0.3661 inches, making this insert appropriate for medium stock removal on shaft, sleeve, and flange geometries. The insert is multi-use rated for boring, facing, and turning in the same holder setup.

Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamp load. Inspect the toolholder seat and shim for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper support and runout control.
