The SECO 02960906 is a carbide turning insert in the DCMT-M3 series, designed for precision metal removal on CNC and manual lathes. It carries a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — engineered to extend tool life during continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert features a 55-degree diamond shape, a 0.3750-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.0315-inch corner radius, with a chamfered and honed cutting edge style for controlled chip formation. It is a neutral-hand, multi-tipped insert with two usable cutting edges per piece. Licensed machinists, CNC operators, and toolroom technicians specify this insert for production turning of steel and cast iron components.
This insert is suited for medium-duty turning applications including back turning, boring, facing, and general OD turning on steel and cast iron workpieces. The M3 chip breaker geometry handles a broad range of depths and feeds, making it appropriate for both roughing passes and intermediate finishing in production environments. Material grades P10 and P20 position it squarely in ISO P-class applications on low- to medium-carbon steels, with secondary suitability for K-class cast iron and H-class hard materials. It is held in place by a screw-clamp toolholder sized to the DCMT pocket standard.

Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians following machine-specific lockout and spindle-stop procedures before seating or indexing inserts. Use the manufacturer-specified torque wrench and clamp screw for the toolholder to ensure proper seating — do not overtighten by feel alone. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for debris or wear before indexing to a fresh cutting edge. Handle carbide inserts carefully; edges are brittle and can chip if dropped or contacted with hard surfaces.
