The SECO 02960888 is a DCMT-style turning insert designed for general turning, facing, boring, and back turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a 55-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64 inch corner radius for sharp, precise cutting edges. The insert is manufactured from carbide and carries the TP2501 grade, applying a CVD-deposited Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr for thermal resistance and wear life. It is held by a screw clamp method and delivers two usable cutting edges per insert. HVAC, plumbing, and industrial maintenance machinists will recognize this as a mid-range finishing and semi-finishing insert optimized for steel and stainless steel.
This insert is suited for turning steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces under the ISO P, M, and K material classifications. Material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35 are covered, making it applicable across a broad range of ferrous turning operations including light roughing through finishing passes. The F1 chip breaker geometry promotes positive rake cutting action and effective chip control at moderate depths of cut up to 0.4449 inches. It meets both ANSI and ISO standards and carries the ISO designation DCMT11T304-F1.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for toolholders accepting DCMT-style inserts per ANSI and ISO DCMT32.51 specifications. Verify pocket geometry, screw hole diameter (0.1772 inches), and insert thickness (5/32 inch) against the toolholder requirements before installation.
Insert replacement should be performed with the machine fully powered down and spindle locked. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw; do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamp force. Index or replace the insert when surface finish or dimensional accuracy degrades, not after catastrophic edge failure. Disposal of carbide tooling should follow local regulations for metallic waste.
