The SECO 02960886 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DCMT series, designed for precision metal cutting operations in CNC and manual turning applications. The insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, a 1/64 inch corner radius, and a 5/32 inch thickness. It carries the TP1501 manufacturer grade with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, delivering high wear resistance with moderate toughness. The F1 chip breaker geometry targets finishing operations. This insert is handled and installed by machinists and toolroom technicians working with CNC lathes and turning centers.
The 02960886 is suited for finishing cuts on steel and cast iron workpieces in both production and job-shop environments. Its positive rake and positive side clearance geometry reduce cutting forces and heat generation, making it appropriate for light to moderate depth-of-cut applications. Rated under material grade designations P10 and P20, it performs well on low-to-medium carbon steels. Secondary applications include hard materials. Compatible multi-use operations include turning, facing, boring, and back turning, covering a broad range of standard lathe work on steel and cast iron components.
Designed for use in DCMT-style toolholders conforming to ANSI insert code DCMT32.51 and ISO insert code DCMT11T304. Suitable for screw-clamp toolholder systems accepting a 55-degree diamond insert with a 0.1772 inch hole diameter. Primary workpiece materials are steel (P-class) and cast iron (K-class); secondary workpiece materials include cast iron and hard materials.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the screw-clamp. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for chips or damage before seating the new insert to ensure proper support and prevent insert fracture during cutting.
