The SECO 02960884 is a VBMT-series solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the TP1501 grade designation with a Duratomic CVD coating system consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr layers applied for extended wear resistance and thermal stability. The insert features a 35-degree diamond shape, a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, a 1/64 inch corner radius, and the F1 chip breaker geometry configured for a sharp cutting edge. With a positive rake angle and neutral hand orientation, it suits a wide range of turning operations including back turning, facing, profiling, and general turning.
This insert is intended for machining steel as its primary workpiece material, classified under ISO material code P, with secondary suitability for cast iron and hard materials under codes K and H. It is sold individually per package with a minimum order quantity of 10 pieces. The F1 chip breaker geometry and sharp cutting edge style make it appropriate for finishing and light-to-medium material removal passes. Applications span general production turning in both job shop and high-volume manufacturing environments. The insert conforms to ANSI and ISO standards and carries the ISO code VBMT160404-F1.
Designed for use in VBMT-style screw-clamp toolholders that accept a 35-degree diamond insert with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle. Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician using the appropriate screw-clamp toolholder for VBMT-series inserts. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before installing to prevent seating errors. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's torque specification for the clamping screw, and verify insert orientation and edge condition before resuming cutting.
