The SECO 02960878 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DCMT-FF1 series, designed for general turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a 55-degree diamond insert shape with a neutral hand orientation and carries a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr for extended wear resistance and thermal stability. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inches and the corner radius is 1/64 inch (0.0157 inches). With two cutting edges per insert and an FF1 chip breaker geometry, this insert is suited for light to medium stock removal in steel and related materials. Licensed machinists, CNC operators, and tooling specialists are the primary installers and end users.
The 02960878 is rated for primary use on steel (ISO P class) and is also applicable to stainless steel and cast iron (ISO M and K classes). Material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35 define its recommended application range, covering finishing to medium roughing passes. Supported operations include turning, facing, boring, and back turning, making it a versatile insert for shops running varied part families on the same toolholder setup. It conforms to ANSI and ISO standards and carries the ISO code DCMT11T304-FF1.

Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the turret or tool post de-energized before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified seating torque. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before mounting to ensure accurate insert positioning and consistent cutting performance.
