The SECO 02960877 is a VBMT-series indexable turning insert engineered for finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces. It features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake and positive side clearance, producing sharp, low-force cuts with excellent surface finish. The insert is manufactured from carbide substrate and carries a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, delivering high wear resistance across a range of cutting conditions. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0079-inch corner radius, the 02960877 is suited to light finishing passes where dimensional accuracy and surface quality are the primary objectives. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators are the primary installers.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, back turning, and profiling operations in both light and moderate production environments. Its TP2501 grade targets steel (P10, P20, P30, P35 material grades) as the primary workpiece material, with strong performance on stainless steel and cast iron as secondary materials. The F1 chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts, controlling chip flow at light depths of cut up to 0.6339 inches. The insert is screw-held in compatible VBMT toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards, making it a straightforward drop-in for shops already running VBMT-family tooling systems.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamp screw to secure the insert in the toolholder pocket — never over-tighten, as this can crack the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert seat and clamp screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
