The SECO 02960871 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VBMT-F1 series, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the industry-standard designation VBMT21.50.5-F1 and is manufactured to ANSI and ISO tolerances. The insert features a 35-degree diamond shape, a 5-degree relief angle, and a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. With manufacturer grade TP2501 and an F1 chip breaker geometry, it is suited for productive metal removal on steel and stainless steel workpieces. Two cutting edges and a screw holding method make it a reliable choice for production turning environments.
This insert is intended for use in back turning, facing, profiling, and general turning applications. It is optimized for steel as the primary workpiece material and is also rated for use on stainless steel and cast iron. The neutral hand orientation allows use in standard right-hand toolholders. It fits applications requiring controlled chip formation at light to moderate depths of cut up to 0.4134 inches. Material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35 are covered, making it versatile across a range of steel alloy cutting conditions in production shop environments.
Designed for use in screw-style VBMT toolholders compatible with the VBMT21.50.5 insert size. Suitable for CNC turning applications on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces across material grades P10 through P35 and M and K material groups.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Power down and de-energize the machine before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat and torque the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert, and never mix cutting edges of different wear states in the same pocket.
