The SECO 02960863 is a CCMT-series indexable turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual lathe operations. It features a diamond 80-degree insert shape with a 7-degree relief angle and a 1/32-inch corner radius. The insert is manufactured from carbide substrate and coated via CVD with a multilayer Duratomic coating system consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr layers. This coating combination is engineered to resist heat and wear during continuous and interrupted cuts in steel and stainless steel. Machining professionals use this insert for boring, facing, and turning operations where consistent tool life and predictable edge performance are required.
This insert is suited for medium to heavy-duty turning of steel, stainless steel, and cast iron in both production and job-shop environments. The M3 chip breaker geometry handles a broad range of feed rates and depths of cut, making it appropriate for roughing through semi-finishing passes. The neutral hand orientation allows use in standard right-hand and left-hand toolholders configured for CCMT pocket geometry. Designed for use in CCMT-style toolholders with a screw-clamp holding system. Compatible with toolholders accepting a CCMT 32.52 insert pocket. Suitable for primary workpiece material Steel (P) and secondary materials Stainless Steel (M) and Cast Iron (K) per ISO classification.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC toolroom technician using the appropriate Torx or hex key for the insert clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Ensure the machine spindle is stopped and the toolholder is fully removed or secured before indexing or replacing the insert. Seat the insert fully into the pocket before torquing the clamp screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new edge to prevent insert rocking and premature failure.
