Product Description

The SECO 02960862 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT-M3 series, designed for precision metal removal on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a Duratomic CVD coating stack of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, which provides thermal resistance and wear protection during continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert features a diamond 80-degree included angle, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch corner radius (0.0315 inches), and an M3 chip breaker geometry optimized for medium roughing to semi-finishing operations. Cutting edges are chamfered and honed. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments are the primary users.

This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring applications on steel as its primary workpiece material, with cast iron and hard materials as secondary applications. The positive rake geometry and M3 chip breaker make it particularly effective in medium to moderate depth-of-cut passes on steel components. It is multi-tipped with 2 cutting edges per insert, extending tool life per unit. The TP1501 manufacturer grade targets P10 and P20 material grades, aligning with general-purpose steel machining in both roughing and finishing contexts.

Key Features

  • Duratomic CVD coating: TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr layers for extended wear life on steel
  • Diamond 80-degree insert shape with M3 chip breaker for controlled chip formation
  • Positive rake geometry reduces cutting forces and heat generation
  • 2 cutting edges per insert, screw-held mounting for repeatable indexing
  • Chamfered and honed cutting edge style for edge stability
  • Multi-use application: boring, facing, and turning from a single insert geometry

Compatibility

Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard production insert for CCMT-style screw-clamp toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO CCMT09T308-M3 specifications. Compatible with toolholders accepting a CCMT insert with a 0.1772-inch (4.50 mm) mounting hole diameter.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom personnel. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide body. Confirm insert seating and edge orientation before resuming cutting operations.
