The SECO 02960860 is a CCMT-style indexable turning insert designed for precision metal removal on steel and stainless steel. It carries the TP2501 manufacturer grade and features a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr for extended tool life and heat resistance. The insert has an 80-degree diamond shape with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle and a 1/64 inch corner radius, making it well suited to finishing and semi-finishing passes. It is a neutral-hand insert with two cutting edges and is held in the toolholder by a screw clamp. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is intended for boring, facing, and turning operations. Its primary workpiece material rating is steel (ISO code P), with secondary ratings covering stainless steel (M) and cast iron (K). Material grade designations P10, P20, P30, and P35 indicate suitability across a range of cutting conditions from light finishing to moderate roughing on ferrous materials. The CCMT form factor is compatible with standard CCMT screw-on toolholders commonly used on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. The F1 chip breaker geometry promotes positive rake cutting and sharp edge engagement, which is particularly effective on stringy low-carbon and alloy steels.
Designed for use in standard CCMT screw-on indexable toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO mounting specifications for CCMT09T3-series inserts. Compatible with boring bars, turning toolholders, and facing toolholders that accept CCMT insert geometry with a 4.50 mm hole diameter.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down or place the machine in a safe toolchange mode before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque range — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a new edge to ensure accurate insert position and prevent premature breakage.
