The SECO 02960856 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT series, designed for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual lathe applications. It carries a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — that extends tool life on steel and cast iron. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape, a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch corner radius, and a neutral hand orientation. The F1 chip breaker geometry produces a sharp cutting edge with a positive rake angle, reducing cutting forces during boring, facing, and turning operations. Four usable cutting edges are available per insert.
This insert is suited for light-to-medium roughing and finishing passes on steel and cast iron workpieces in production turning environments. It is commonly used in external turning, internal boring, and facing cycles on CNC lathes and turning centers. The TP1501 grade targets ISO material groups P (steel) at grades P10 and P20, and K (cast iron) and H (hard material) as secondary applications. It is a multi-use insert compatible with screw-clamp toolholders accepting the CCMT 21.51 insert seat size.
Designed for use with screw-clamp toolholders accepting the CCMT 21.51 insert seat. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P10, P20); secondary materials include cast iron (ISO K) and hard materials (ISO H). Industry standard number CCMT21.51-F1 applies for cross-reference to equivalent toolholder seat specifications.
Installation is performed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the pocket and torque the clamp screw using the toolholder manufacturer's specified driver to prevent insert movement during cutting. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or damage before seating a new edge.
