The SECO 02960852 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT-M3 series, designed for precision metal-cutting operations including boring, facing, and turning. It carries the industry standard designation CCMT32.51-M3 and is manufactured to the TP1501 grade, featuring a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr for extended tool life and heat resistance. The insert has an 80-degree diamond shape with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius. With two cutting edges per insert and a chamfered-and-honed cutting edge style, it delivers consistent chip control in moderate to demanding steel applications. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users.
This insert is optimized for steel as its primary workpiece material, with secondary suitability for cast iron and hard materials. The M3 chip breaker geometry supports a positive rake configuration suited to medium-depth roughing and semi-finishing passes. It is well matched to external and internal turning applications on CNC lathes and machining centers where screw-clamped toolholders in the CCMT pocket style are used. The insert is rated for material grades P10 and P20, making it a reliable choice for general-purpose steel machining in production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use in CCMT-style screw-clamp toolholders. ISO code CCMT09T304-M3 and industry standard number CCMT32.51-M3 apply. Compatible toolholders must accept a 3/8-inch inscribed-circle insert with a 0.1772-inch hole diameter. Verify toolholder pocket geometry before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Use the correct torque screwdriver specified by the toolholder manufacturer for the clamping screw to avoid insert cracking or seat damage. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for chips or wear before seating the new insert.
