The SECO 02960848 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT-F1 series, designed for precision metal removal on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features an 80-degree diamond insert shape with a neutral hand orientation and a 1/2-inch inscribed circle. The TP2501 grade uses a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — engineered to extend tool life and maintain edge integrity across a range of cutting conditions. The F1 chip breaker geometry produces a sharp cutting edge suited for finishing and light roughing applications. Holding is via screw clamp. This insert is used by machinists and tooling technicians in production and job-shop turning environments.
The 02960848 is suited for operations on steel as the primary workpiece material, with secondary capability on stainless steel and cast iron. Its multi-use geometry supports boring, facing, and turning applications. The 7-degree relief angle and positive rake contribute to lower cutting forces, making it appropriate for both light finishing passes and moderate stock removal. Material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35 are the target application range. Designed as an OEM-style replacement and production insert for CCMT-style screw-clamp toolholders accepting a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick, 80-degree diamond insert. Secondary workpiece compatibility includes stainless steel and cast iron.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the pocket and tighten the clamp screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque to prevent insert movement during cutting. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp hardware for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
