The SECO 02960846 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT-M3 series, designed for precision metal removal in CNC turning applications. It features a diamond 80-degree insert shape with a 7-degree relief angle and an M3 chip breaker geometry that controls chips effectively across a range of feed rates and depths of cut. The insert carries a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — that enhances wear resistance and thermal stability. With a 0.25-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0315-inch corner radius, it suits moderate to light finishing and medium roughing passes. Two cutting edges per insert are available, and the screw-lock holding method provides rigid clamping in compatible toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in production turning environments.
This insert is rated primarily for steel (ISO material code P) and is also suitable for stainless steel (M) and cast iron (K). It is applicable to boring, facing, and turning operations. The positive rake geometry reduces cutting forces, making it well-suited for workpieces in the P10 through P35 material grade range. The chamfered and honed cutting edge style supports a stable edge line and consistent surface finish. Install and index this insert with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamping screw — do not over-tighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamp load. Inspect the insert pocket seat and shim for debris or damage before seating a new insert. Follow shop safety protocols and applicable OSHA machine guarding requirements when servicing CNC turning centers or manual lathes.
