The SECO 02960840 is a CCMT431-M3 series solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal removal in CNC and manual lathe applications. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, a 3/16-inch thickness, and a 1/64-inch (0.0157-inch) corner radius. The insert carries a TP1501 grade designation with a multilayer CVD Duratomic coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — engineered to deliver high wear resistance with moderate toughness. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert for finishing and medium machining operations where consistent tool life and surface finish are the primary targets.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel and cast iron workpieces. Its P10/P20 material grade classification places it in the high-to-moderate wear-resistance range for steel (P) and cast iron (K) applications, with secondary suitability for hard materials (H). The M3 chip breaker geometry supports both finishing and medium machining pass depths, making it a practical choice for shops running varied part programs without swapping insert geometry between operations. It is screw-held and compatible with standard CCMT-style toolholders.
