The SECO 02960787 is a solid carbide turning insert in the SNMG-MR7 series, designed for high-productivity metal cutting in CNC turning applications. It carries a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — engineered to extend tool life on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces. The insert features a 1 inch inscribed circle, a 3/32 inch corner radius (0.0945 inches decimal), and a T-Land cutting edge style with an MR7 chip breaker geometry. With 8 usable cutting edges per insert, it delivers strong cost-per-edge economics for production turning environments. The negative rake and 0-degree relief angle suit it to rigid setups and interrupted cuts common in steel turning.
This insert is suited to general turning, facing, and boring operations in ISO material groups P, M, and K — covering steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. The TP2501 grade targets material grades P10 through P35, making it a strong choice for finishing to semi-roughing passes on low-alloy and medium-carbon steels. It is installed by machinists and CNC turning center operators in job shop and production settings where consistent chip control and edge life on ferrous materials are the priority.
Designed for use in SNMG-style insert toolholders that accept a 1 inch inscribed circle, 3/8 inch thick square insert with a 0.3591 inch hole diameter. Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. The machine spindle must be stopped and the turret fully indexed to a safe position before seating or removing the insert. Confirm the toolholder pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before clamping. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut or use the insert in toolholders that do not match the SNMG seat geometry, as this will compromise edge security and surface finish.
