The SECO 02960779 is a multi-tipped solid carbide turning insert in the TNMG666-MR7 series, designed for negative-rake external and internal turning operations. It carries the TP2501 manufacturer grade and features a Duratomic CVD multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr for extended tool life under demanding cutting conditions. The triangular insert body provides six cutting edges and a 3/4 inch inscribed circle, while the MR7 chip breaker geometry with a T-Land cutting edge style controls chip flow across a broad range of feed and depth conditions. Corner radius measures 0.0945 inches (3/32 inch nominal). This insert is installed by CNC machinists and turning center operators working in production and job-shop environments.
The 02960779 is suited for back turning, boring, facing, and general turning applications. Its primary target workpiece material is steel, with secondary suitability for stainless steel and cast iron. The MR7 chip breaker geometry and Duratomic coating make it effective across roughing to semi-finishing passes in those material families. Material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35 are covered. Maximum depth of cut reaches 1.0669 inches, supporting a wide range of material removal scenarios from light finishing to aggressive roughing on qualifying setups.
Designed for use in TNMG-style toolholders that accept clamp, pin, or lever lock insert retention. Compatible with setups targeting steel (P10-P35), stainless steel (M-grade), and cast iron (K-grade) workpiece materials as defined by ISO material classification.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following machine tool manufacturer guidelines for TNMG insert holders. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or replacing inserts. Verify the insert pocket, shim, and clamping hardware are clean and undamaged before torquing the clamp screw. Do not exceed the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamping torque or maximum depth of cut for the given setup overhang and workpiece material.
