The SECO 02960766 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG432-MF5 series, designed for precision metal removal in steel and stainless steel machining operations. It carries the TP2501 grade designation with a Duratomic CVD coating consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr layers for extended wear resistance and thermal stability. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape (C), a neutral hand orientation, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch (0.0315-inch) corner radius. With 4 cutting edges and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style, it delivers consistent chip control across a range of material grades including P10, P20, P30, and P35. This insert is intended for use by CNC machinists and tool-room operators.
This insert is suited for general turning, facing, and boring applications on CNC lathes and turning centers. Its MF5 chip breaker geometry is optimized for finish to medium cuts in steel, with secondary capability in stainless steel and cast iron. The maximum depth of cut is 0.1063 inches, making it appropriate for light-to-medium stock removal passes. It is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 10 units per order, consistent with standard industrial tooling procurement practice.
Designed for use in toolholders accepting CNMG432 style inserts with clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding systems. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P); secondary workpiece materials include stainless steel (ISO M) and cast iron (ISO K). Material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35 are supported.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Before indexing or replacing inserts, the machine must be powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the insert to avoid cracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before clamping, as contamination can cause premature edge failure or dimensional error.
