The SECO 02960761 is a solid carbide turning insert in the SNMG-MF2 series, grade TP2501, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a square insert shape with a 90-degree included angle, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — delivers wear resistance and thermal stability for extended tool life. With 8 cutting edges per insert and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style, this insert is suited for high-productivity finishing and semi-finishing operations. It is installed by CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals in production turning environments.
This insert is rated for primary use on steel (ISO material code P, grades P10 through P35) and is also suitable for stainless steel (M) and cast iron (K). The MF2 chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and medium machining applications. Multi-use applications include turning, facing, and boring. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable across a range of toolholder setups. It conforms to ANSI and ISO standards, with an ISO designation of SNMG090304-MF2 and an industry standard number of SNMG321-MF2.
Designed for use with SNMG-style toolholders that accept a 3/8-inch inscribed circle square insert with a 0.1500-inch hole diameter. Compatible holding methods include clamp, pin, and lever-lock systems. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpiece materials.
Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is locked before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified fastener for the toolholder clamping system — do not overtighten by hand. Verify insert seating and edge orientation before resuming cutting operations.
