The SECO 02960749 is a WNMG432-MF5 indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide and coated via CVD with a multilayer Duratomic stack of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. It carries manufacturer grade TP2501 and features the MF5 chip breaker geometry with a chamfered and honed cutting edge for controlled chip formation in medium finishing to semi-roughing operations. The insert has a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0315-inch corner radius, and delivers up to 0.1063 inches maximum depth of cut. With 6 usable cutting edges and compatibility with clamp, pin, and lever-lock holding methods, it suits high-volume turning environments where edge economy matters. This insert is designed for boring, facing, and turning operations on primary workpiece material Steel (ISO code P) and secondary materials Stainless Steel (M) and Cast Iron (K). It fits material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35, making it applicable across a broad range of carbon steels and low-alloy steels in both light and moderate chip-load scenarios. The negative rake geometry and N-clearance angle suit rigid setups on CNC lathes and turning centers where insert security and surface finish consistency are priorities. The MF5 chip breaker is optimized for finishing to medium cuts rather than heavy interrupted work.

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified seating hardware for the toolholder clamping system in use; do not over-tighten clamp screws by feel alone. Inspect the toolholder pocket and shim seat for chips or damage before seating a fresh insert, as contamination will affect runout and edge life.
