The SECO 02960746 is a DNMG432-MF5 indexable turning insert in grade TP2501, designed for general-purpose external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert is manufactured from solid carbide and finished with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, which improves wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. The 55-degree diamond shape (Insert Shape Code D) provides four usable cutting edges per insert. An inscribed circle of 0.5 inches and a corner radius of 0.0315 inches (1/32 inch) suit a wide range of moderate-depth finishing and semi-finishing passes.
This insert is suited for machining steel, stainless steel, and cast iron, corresponding to ISO material groups P, M, and K. Typical applications include facing, turning, back turning, and boring on production and job-shop lathes. The MF5 chip breaker geometry is optimized for light to medium depths of cut, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.1063 inches. Material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35 indicate suitability across a spectrum of steel alloys from low-carbon to alloy steels. The Neutral hand orientation allows use in standard right-hand toolholders without restriction.
Designed for use in DNMG-style toolholders that accept a 55-degree diamond insert with a 0.2028-inch hole diameter and clamp, pin, or lever-lock retention. Verify toolholder seat and clamping system specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque driver or clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the insert — do not overtighten. Inspect the insert seat and shim for wear or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination in the pocket will affect runout and edge life.
