The SECO 02960743 is a WNMG432-MF5 indexable turning insert in grade TP1501, manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. It features an 80-degree trigon (W) insert shape with a negative rake angle, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.0315-inch corner radius. The MF5 chip breaker geometry is optimized for light to medium finishing cuts on steel and cast iron. With 6 cutting edges and compatibility with clamp, pin, and lever lock holding methods, this insert suits high-volume production turning applications. CNC machinists and toolroom operators working on steel components will find it effective for tight tolerance finishing passes.
This insert is designed for use in turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Its primary workpiece material is steel (ISO material code P, grades P10 and P20), with secondary suitability for cast iron (K) and hard materials (H). The MF5 chip breaker geometry and chamfered-and-honed cutting edge make it well suited for finishing and semi-finishing operations where surface finish and edge stability are priorities. It is a neutral-hand insert, making it usable in both conventional and back-turning configurations depending on toolholder orientation.
Designed for use in WNMG-style toolholders that accept a 0.5-inch inscribed circle trigon insert. Compatible with clamp, pin, and lever lock holding methods. Meets ANSI and ISO standards; ISO code WNMG080408-MF5. Industry standard number WNMG432-MF5.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC toolroom personnel. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and screw type specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the insert clamp or lever lock mechanism. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new cutting edge to avoid insert rocking or premature edge failure.
