The SECO 02960686 is a CNMG431-FF1 indexable turning insert in grade TP2501, manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating (TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr). The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.0157-inch corner radius. With four cutting edges, negative rake geometry, and a honed cutting edge style, this insert is engineered for finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. It carries both ANSI (CNMG431) and ISO (CNMG120404-FF1) designations and meets ANSI and ISO standards.
This insert is suited for CNC lathe and turning center applications involving external turning, boring, and facing on steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K) workpiece materials. The FF1 chip breaker geometry targets finishing cuts requiring tight surface finish control and reliable chip formation at light-to-moderate depths of cut up to 0.4921 inches. It is compatible with insert-holding methods including clamp, pin, and lever lock toolholders. It is appropriate for production environments in metalworking shops where dimensional consistency and insert-to-insert repeatability are required.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders accepting a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle insert with negative rake geometry and clamp, pin, or lever lock holding methods. Suitable for P10, P20, P30, and P35 material grade applications per ISO classification.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against all toolholder contact surfaces before clamping to ensure accurate edge positioning. Use the appropriate torque wrench per the toolholder manufacturer specification when securing the clamping screw.
