The SECO 02960592 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert engineered for precision metal removal in steel and cast iron applications. Manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — this insert delivers thermal resistance and edge wear performance in demanding turning operations. It carries the industry-standard designation CNMG432W-MF5 and ISO code CNMG120408W-MF5. The insert features a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0315-inch corner radius, an 80-degree diamond shape, and four usable cutting edges. The MF5 chipbreaker geometry with a chamfered and honed cutting edge suits finishing and medium turning passes on steel workpieces.
This insert is used in boring, facing, and turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers in both production and job-shop environments. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO material code P), with secondary suitability for cast iron (K) and hard materials (H). Applicable material grades are P10 and P20. The negative rake geometry and wiper edge design support stable, controlled cuts at moderate depths. Licensed machinists and CNC operators handling steel components are the primary installers of this consumable tooling item.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement for toolholders accepting CNMG432 inserts with clamp, pin, or lever-lock retention. Suitable for tooling systems compatible with ANSI and ISO CNMG series insert standards.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket before tightening the clamp or engaging the lever lock. Inspect the pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before each index to prevent insert rocking and premature edge failure.
