The SECO 02960578 is a TNMG432-M5 series indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. It carries a TP1501 grade designation and is designed for negative-rake, neutral-hand turning operations in CNC lathes and turning centers. The triangular insert shape provides 6 usable cutting edges, making it a cost-effective choice for production environments. With a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, a 0.1874-inch insert thickness, and a 0.0315-inch corner radius, it is suited for moderate to semi-finishing passes on steel and cast iron workpieces.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, boring, and back turning applications on steel and cast iron, including hard materials. The M5 chip breaker geometry is optimized for medium-duty cutting conditions in those material categories, covering ISO material grades P10, P20 for steel and K and H grades for cast iron and hard materials. It fits standard TNMG-style toolholders using clamp, pin, or lever-lock insert holding methods and is well suited to both roughing and finishing passes within its rated depth-of-cut range.
Designed for use in standard TNMG-series negative-rake turning toolholders that accept a 0.2028-inch hole diameter insert with clamp, pin, or lever-lock retention. Suitable for steel (P10, P20) and cast iron and hard material (K, H) workpiece classifications per ISO turning insert standards.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing the insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Torque clamping screws only to the toolholder manufacturer's specified value — do not over-torque, as this can fracture the carbide substrate.
