The SECO 02960568 is a solid carbide SNMG-style turning insert designed for general-purpose metal cutting in CNC turning centers and manual lathes. It carries the TP2501 manufacturer grade and uses a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — engineered to resist heat and wear during continuous and interrupted cuts in steel and stainless steel. The insert features an SNMG432-M5 industry-standard designation with an M5 chip breaker geometry, a chamfered and honed cutting edge, and a 0.5 inch inscribed circle. With 8 usable cutting edges per insert, it delivers a low per-edge cost over its service life. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install and index this insert at the machine tool.
This insert targets medium-duty turning, boring, and facing operations primarily in steel (ISO P10, P20, P30, P35) and secondarily in stainless steel and cast iron (ISO M and K material groups). The negative rake, 90-degree square geometry and neutral hand orientation suit a wide range of toolholder setups. It is designed for clamp, pin, and lever-lock holding methods, making it compatible with many standard SNMG-style toolholders. The M5 chip breaker geometry handles a range of depths of cut and feeds typical of roughing to semi-finishing passes on steel workpieces.

Indexing and replacement of turning inserts is performed by a machinist at the machine tool with the spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out per shop safety procedures. Use the appropriate torque wrench and seating screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten the clamp screw, as this can fracture carbide. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for chips or damage before seating a new insert. Confirm correct insert orientation and chip breaker direction before resuming the cut.
