The SECO 02960556 is a solid carbide turning insert in the WNMG433-M5 series, designed for general-purpose external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the TP2501 manufacturer grade with a Duratomic CVD multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, which provides thermal resistance and wear performance when cutting steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. The 80-degree trigon (W) insert shape delivers a strong cutting edge geometry, and the M5 chipbreaker is engineered for medium-depth roughing and semi-finishing passes. The insert holds a neutral hand orientation and features a chamfered and honed cutting edge style for controlled entry into the workpiece.
This insert is applied in turning centers and CNC lathes performing boring, facing, and external turning operations. The TP2501 grade targets steel (ISO P material group, grades P10 through P35) as its primary workpiece material, with secondary suitability for stainless steel (ISO M) and cast iron (ISO K). It is appropriate for both light production and high-volume machining environments where consistent chip control and tool life across multiple cutting edges are required. Machinists and CNC programmers in job shops, production facilities, and aerospace or industrial component manufacturing will recognize this as a standard ISO-footprint insert.
Designed to fit standard WNMG-style toolholders that accept clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods. Compatible toolholders must accommodate a 0.2028-inch hole diameter and the WNMG 433 insert footprint per ANSI and ISO standards.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a full stop and lockout-tagout procedure applied before any insert change. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and ensure the clamping mechanism engages correctly before resuming any cutting operation. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut for the selected toolholder and insert combination. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear at regular intervals, as a worn edge on a negative-rake insert can generate elevated cutting forces and affect workpiece quality.
