The SECO 02960555 is a solid carbide turning insert in the WNMG-M5 series, designed for high-performance metal cutting in production and job-shop environments. It carries the industry standard designation WNMG433-M5 and is manufactured to ANSI and ISO tolerances. The insert features a Duratomic CVD coating stack of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, which provides thermal resistance and wear protection during continuous and interrupted cuts. The 80-degree trigon shape, M tolerance class, and neutral hand orientation make this insert a versatile choice for boring, facing, and turning operations on steel and cast iron workpieces.
This insert is suited for medium finishing to semi-roughing operations. The M5 chip breaker geometry with a chamfered and honed cutting edge style is optimized for steel (ISO P10, P20 material grades) as the primary workpiece material, with secondary suitability for cast iron and hard materials. The insert accepts clamping via clamp, pin, or lever lock holding methods, making it compatible with a wide range of toolholders in the WNMG style. It is a multi-tipped, multi-use insert appropriate for CNC lathes and boring bars in both shop and industrial settings.
Designed for WNMG-style toolholders accepting a 1/2 inch inscribed circle insert with a 0.2028-inch hole diameter and lever lock, clamp, or pin retention. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P code); secondary materials include cast iron (K) and hard materials (H).
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert firmly against the toolholder pocket and confirm the clamping mechanism is fully engaged before resuming cuts. Follow toolholder manufacturer torque and clamping specifications for the specific retention method in use.
