The SECO 02960553 is a solid carbide turning insert in the WNMG432-M5 configuration, manufactured to ANSI and ISO standards under the ISO code WNMG080408-M5. It carries the TP2501 grade designation and uses a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. The trigon insert shape (80-degree included angle) with a neutral hand orientation and M5 chip breaker geometry makes it well suited for medium-depth turning passes on steel and related alloys. Six usable cutting edges per insert reduce tooling cost per part. The 1/32-inch corner radius and chamfered-and-honed edge prep support consistent chip formation across a broad feed and depth range.
This insert is intended for use in CNC lathes and turning centers by machinists and tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments. Rated primarily for steel (ISO material code P, grades P10 through P35), it also handles stainless steel (M) and cast iron (K) as secondary workpiece materials. Multi-use application coverage includes turning, facing, and boring when used with a compatible WNMG-style tool holder. The M5 chip breaker geometry is optimized for medium-finish passes with moderate chip loads.
Designed for use in WNMG-style tool holders that accept a 1/2-inch inscribed circle trigon insert with a 0.2028-inch hole diameter; compatible with clamp, pin, and lever-lock clamping systems. Suitable for primary workpiece material steel (P10, P20, P30, P35) and secondary materials stainless steel and cast iron.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the new insert. Use the tool holder manufacturer's specified clamping torque procedure for the lever-lock, pin, or clamp system in use. Inspect the insert for seating stability before resuming cutting operations.
