The SECO 02960545 is a CNMG644-M5 indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. The insert carries manufacturer grade TP2501, which is engineered for steel and stainless steel cutting applications. It features an 80-degree diamond shape (CNMG insert style), a 3/4-inch inscribed circle, a 1/16-inch corner radius, and 4 cutting edges. The M5 chip breaker geometry uses a chamfered and honed cutting edge style with a negative rake and 0-degree relief angle, producing a stable, predictable cut in general turning operations.
This insert is suited for medium to heavy-duty turning, facing, and boring on CNC lathes and machining centers in production and job-shop environments. The TP2501 grade targets primary workpiece materials in ISO P (steel) classifications, with secondary suitability for ISO M (stainless steel) and ISO K (cast iron). It is compatible with CNMG-style toolholders that accept clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods. The neutral hand orientation allows installation in both right-hand and left-hand toolholder configurations.
Designed for use in CNMG-style indexable toolholders accepting an 80-degree diamond insert with a 3/4-inch inscribed circle. Compatible with clamp, pin, and lever-lock holding systems. Suitable for boring, facing, and turning operations. Industry standard number CNMG644-M5; ISO code CNMG190616-M5.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Before indexing or replacing the insert, confirm the machine is powered down and the spindle is fully stopped. Seat the insert firmly against the toolholder pocket seating surfaces and engage the clamping mechanism fully before any cutting operation. Follow toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw; do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide substrate.
