The SECO 02960541 is a CNMG543-M5 series indexable turning insert designed for metal cutting operations including turning, facing, and boring. It is manufactured from solid carbide with a Duratomic CVD coating stack of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, classified under material grade P10 and P20. The insert carries an 80-degree diamond shape, a 5/8-inch inscribed circle, a 3/64-inch corner radius, and a negative rake geometry with a neutral hand. The M5 chip breaker and chamfered and honed cutting edge make this insert suited for general-purpose steel machining where controlled chip formation and edge durability are required. CNC machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary installers.
This insert is intended for use in steel as the primary workpiece material, with cast iron and hard materials as secondary applications. The CNMG form factor is compatible with standard CNMG-style turning toolholders that accept clamp, pin, or lever lock holding methods. Typical install scenarios include OD turning, facing passes, and light-to-medium boring operations on CNC lathes and turning centers in production and job shop environments. The four available cutting edges per insert support cost-effective tool life management on high-cycle production runs.

Installation is performed by CNC machinists or toolroom technicians using standard torx or hex keys appropriate to the toolholder clamping system. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before indexing or replacing the insert. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamp to prevent insert movement during the cut. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidance for the specific clamping mechanism in use.
