The SECO 02960540 is a CNMG-style carbide turning insert with the M5 chip breaker geometry and TP0501 grade designation. It carries a CVD-applied Duratomic coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, which provides thermal resistance and wear protection during continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert measures 0.6339 inches in length with a 5/8-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0472-inch corner radius. With four usable cutting edges, a negative rake angle, and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style, it is suited for medium to semi-finish turning operations. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install and index this insert during production turning cycles.
This insert is engineered for primary use on steel workpieces and secondary use on cast iron. Its multi-use geometry supports boring, facing, and turning operations. The M5 chip breaker is optimized for medium cutting depths, and the insert is compatible with clamp, pin, and lever lock holding methods. At a maximum depth of cut of 0.5866 inches and a 0.25-inch insert thickness, it handles a practical range of material removal tasks on standard CNC lathes and turning centers. Indexing and replacement of turning inserts is performed by machinists following machine lockout and spindle-stop procedures before entering the work zone. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before seating the new insert. Tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque using the appropriate torx or hex key. Verify edge runout and tool offset compensation in the CNC control before resuming cutting.
