The SECO 02960515 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal removal in demanding industrial machining applications. It carries the industry standard designation DNMU333-M5 and is manufactured to the TP1501 grade using a CVD-applied Duratomic coating stack of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. The insert features a 55-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation and a negative rake geometry. With 4 cutting edges, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a corner radius of 3/64 inch, it is built for consistent performance across steel and cast iron workpieces. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians install this insert in rigid turning centers and CNC lathes.
This insert is suited for back turning, boring, facing, and general turning operations on steel (ISO material code P), cast iron (K), and hard materials (H). The M5 chip breaker geometry is engineered for medium-depth cutting passes, and the chamfered and honed cutting edge style improves edge stability under interrupted or continuous cuts. It is appropriate for both roughing and semi-finish passes within its stated depth-of-cut range. The insert is compatible with toolholders that use clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods, which are common in production turning setups across job shops and manufacturing facilities.
Designed for toolholders that accept DNMU-style inserts using clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods. Primary workpiece material is steel (P10, P20 material grades); secondary workpiece materials include cast iron and hard materials. Maximum depth of cut is 0.4094 inches.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing the insert. Seat the insert fully and securely in the pocket before engaging the clamping mechanism to prevent insert movement under cutting load. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for the insert grade and chip breaker combination.
