The SECO 02960490 is a CNMG434-M5 indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide and finished with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. It carries the TP2501 manufacturer grade and is designed for negative-rake metal cutting operations including boring, facing, and turning. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape, a neutral hand orientation, four usable cutting edges, and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style. With an inscribed circle of 0.5 inches and a corner radius of 0.063 inches, it suits a broad range of medium-duty cutting applications on steel workpieces. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments are the primary installers and users.
This insert is suited for use in CNMG-M5 series toolholders in both light and heavy production turning cells. Primary workpiece material is steel, covering material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35. Secondary applications include stainless steel and cast iron. The M5 chip breaker geometry is optimized for medium-depth roughing and finishing passes, making it a practical choice for general turning, facing, and internal boring operations in job-shop and production environments. The multi-use designation means one insert style handles multiple operation types without changing tooling between setups.
Designed for use in CNMG-M5 series toolholders that accept negative-rake, 80-degree diamond inserts with clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods. Suitable for steel (P10-P35), stainless steel, and cast iron workpiece materials.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC operator following standard indexable insert seating procedures. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and confirm the clamping method is secure before resuming cutting. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or debris that could affect seating accuracy and cutting stability.
