The SECO 02960487 is a solid carbide indexable turning insert in the CNMG-M5 series, designed for medium to finish turning operations on steel and cast iron workpieces. It carries an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 0-degree relief angle (clearance code N), and tolerance code M for consistent seating in standard CNMG toolholders. The insert is CVD-coated with a Duratomic multilayer system — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — delivering wear resistance and thermal stability at productive cutting speeds. Four usable cutting edges per insert reduce tooling cost per part. Primary applications fall within ISO material groups P10 and P20.
This insert is suited for external and internal turning, facing, and boring on steel in the P material class, with secondary capability on cast iron (K) and hard materials (H). The M5 chip breaker geometry features a chamfered and honed cutting edge that manages chip control across a broad range of depths of cut, up to a maximum of 0.4606 inches. It fits standard CNMG-style toolholders using clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods, making it compatible with common turning center and lathe setups in both production and job-shop environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for standard CNMG toolholders accepting clamp, pin, or lever-lock mounting. Industry standard number CNMG433-M5 (ISO: CNMG120412-M5). Minimum order quantity is 10 inserts; package quantity is 1.
Indexable turning inserts are installed and replaced by qualified machinists or CNC operators following machine tool lockout and energy isolation procedures before any insert change. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the new insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench per the toolholder manufacturer spec when tightening clamp screws — do not over-torque. Inspect the chip breaker orientation and confirm neutral hand alignment matches the toolholder setup before resuming cuts.
