The SECO 02960485 is a CNMG432-M5 indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide and finished with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. This coating system is engineered for wear resistance and heat control during continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert carries grade designation TP2501 and features a negative rake geometry with a chamfered and honed cutting edge. The M5 chip breaker is designed to manage chip flow across a broad range of depths and feed rates. Qualified HVAC, machining, and toolroom professionals will recognize this as a production-grade insert suited to general turning operations on steel and allied materials.
This insert is applied in boring, facing, and turning operations on a variety of workpiece materials. Its primary workpiece material designation is Steel (ISO P), with secondary suitability for Stainless Steel (ISO M) and Cast Iron (ISO K). Recommended material grades span P10, P20, P30, and P35. The multi-use, multi-tipped design allows up to four cutting edges per insert, making it appropriate for high-volume production environments as well as job-shop applications where tooling economy matters. The M5 chip breaker geometry handles moderate depths of cut up to 0.4764 inches.
Designed for use in toolholders accepting CNMG432 inserts with clamp, pin, or lever-lock retention. Industry standard number CNMG432-M5; ISO equivalent CNMG120408-M5. Confirm toolholder pocket geometry and insert hand (neutral) before installation.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and clamping procedure. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the pocket seat and clamping components for damage or debris before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut rating for the insert grade and chip breaker combination in use.
