The SECO 02960468 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert designed for general-purpose metal cutting in CNC turning centers and manual lathes. Manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, this insert carries the TP1501 grade designation and is built for steel and cast iron applications. It features a diamond 80-degree insert shape, a negative rake geometry, and an MR7 chip breaker for controlled chip evacuation across a range of depths and feed rates. The T-Land cutting edge style adds edge stability under interrupted or semi-interrupted cutting conditions. With 4 usable cutting edges per insert, this is a cost-effective consumable for high-volume turning operations.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, cast iron, and hard materials in both roughing and semi-finishing passes. The TP1501 grade with Duratomic coating targets P10 and P20 material grades, making it a strong fit for general carbon and alloy steel stock removal in production machining environments. Designed for CNMG-style toolholders that accept a 5/8 inch inscribed circle insert with clamp, pin, or lever lock holding. Industry standard number CNMG543-MR7 and ISO code CNMG160612-MR7 can be used to cross-reference compatible toolholder systems. Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked. Verify that the toolholder pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as this can crack the insert. Always refer to the toolholder manufacturer's setup documentation for correct insert orientation and clamping method when using clamp, pin, or lever lock configurations.
