The SECO 02960437 is a CNMG642-M3 series indexable turning insert designed for general-purpose metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It is manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, which provides thermal resistance and wear resistance across a range of cutting conditions. The insert carries the TP2501 manufacturer grade and features a negative rake geometry, chamfered and honed cutting edge, and M3 chip breaker. With four usable cutting edges per insert, it delivers consistent performance in facing, boring, and turning operations. The inscribed circle measures 3/4 inches with a 1/32 inch corner radius.
This insert is suited for roughing and semi-finish turning of steel, stainless steel, and cast iron, corresponding to ISO material groups P and M and K. It fits within material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35, making it applicable across a broad hardness and toughness range in steel cutting. Typical users are CNC machinists and toolroom operators running production turning cycles. The M3 chip breaker geometry handles moderate chip loads in interrupted and continuous cutting scenarios. Multi-use application includes boring, facing, and turning in both roughing and transitional depth-of-cut ranges up to 0.7283 inches.
Designed for CNMG-style toolholders using clamp, pin, or lever lock holding methods. ISO designation CNMG190608-M3 and industry standard number CNMG642-M3 apply. Verified compatible with toolholders rated for 3/4 inch inscribed circle inserts with a 0.3118 inch hole diameter.
Installation is performed by CNC machinists or toolroom technicians following machine lockout and spindle stop procedures before insert indexing or replacement. Seat the insert firmly in the pocket and confirm the clamping method engages the hole and locating surfaces correctly before resuming cuts. Refer to the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw. Follow shop safety protocols and applicable ANSI standards when handling carbide inserts, as edges are sharp and brittle.
