The SECO 02960433 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TCMT-M3 series, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a triangular insert shape with a 60-degree included angle, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. The insert carries a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, targeting grade TP2501 performance across a range of steel and stainless steel applications. Three cutting edges are available per insert, and the M3 chip breaker geometry is engineered for controlled chip formation during medium-duty turning operations. Installation is performed by licensed machinists and CNC operators using standard screw-clamp toolholders.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, and back turning operations in production and job-shop environments. The primary target workpiece material is steel, with secondary capability on stainless steel and cast iron. Material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35 are covered, making it appropriate for light roughing through medium finishing passes. The M3 chip breaker geometry helps manage chip control across these material categories. Typical applications include shaft turning, shoulder facing, and internal boring passes on conventional and live-tooling setups.
Designed for use in screw-clamp TCMT-style toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle triangular insert. Compatible with toolholder systems conforming to ANSI and ISO TCMT insert seating standards. Consult toolholder documentation to confirm pocket geometry and clamping pin hole diameter of 0.1772 inches before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torque screwdriver or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamping screw — do not overtighten or substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert, and confirm the insert is fully seated before resuming cutting operations.
