The SECO 02960431 is a triangular solid carbide turning insert in the TCMT-M3 series, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — that delivers wear resistance and thermal stability in demanding cutting conditions. The insert has a 3/8-inch (0.375 inch) inscribed circle, a 0.0157-inch corner radius, and an insert thickness of 0.1563 inches. With three usable cutting edges and a positive rake geometry, it is suited for moderate to high material removal rates. This part is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
This insert is intended for ferrous machining applications including back turning, boring, facing, and general turning. Its primary workpiece material is steel, with secondary suitability for stainless steel and cast iron. The M3 chip breaker geometry and chamfered-and-honed cutting edge style make it effective across a range of depths of cut up to 0.6102 inches. It fits standard TCMT-style toolholders that accept a screw-lock insert-holding method. Machinists working in job shop and production environments on P10 through P35 material grades will find this insert appropriate for light to medium roughing and finishing passes.

Fits toolholder bores accommodating a 0.1772-inch hole diameter insert. Verify toolholder seating pocket matches the TCMT insert geometry before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the seating pocket for chips or debris before installing a fresh edge, as an unseated insert can cause premature edge failure or workpiece damage.
