Product Description

The SECO 02960430 is a TCMT-style solid carbide turning insert carrying the industry standard designation TCMT32.51-M3 and manufacturer grade TP1501. It features a triangular insert shape with a 60-degree included angle, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The multilayer CVD coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — is applied under the Duratomic coating classification, delivering wear resistance suited for continuous and interrupted cuts. The M3 chip breaker geometry uses a chamfered and honed cutting edge with a positive rake and 7-degree relief angle. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert in screw-clamped toolholders on turning centers and lathes.

This insert is designed primarily for machining steel (ISO material code P, grades P10 and P20) and is also rated for cast iron and hard materials (ISO codes K and H). Typical applications include turning, facing, boring, and back turning operations. The neutral hand orientation and multi-tipped design with three cutting edges make it a versatile choice for general-purpose external and internal turning operations in production and job-shop environments.

Key Features

  • CVD Duratomic multilayer coating: TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr for extended tool life on steel and cast iron
  • Three cutting edges per insert — multi-tipped design reduces per-edge tooling cost
  • M3 chip breaker with chamfered and honed edge — positive rake geometry for cleaner chip control
  • Screw-clamped insert holding method — compatible with standard TCMT screw-on toolholders
  • Rated for back turning, boring, facing, and turning — broad application coverage from a single insert style
  • Meets ANSI and ISO standards — ANSI designation TCMT32.51-M3, ISO designation TCMT16T304-M3

Compatibility

Designed for use in screw-clamped TCMT-series toolholders. Primary workpiece material is steel (P10, P20); secondary workpiece materials include cast iron and hard materials. Conforms to ANSI designation TCMT32.51-M3 and ISO designation TCMT16T304-M3, allowing direct cross-reference to compatible holders specified to those standards.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Secure the insert with the appropriate torx or hex key screw to the toolholder manufacturer's recommended procedure — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and will crack under excessive clamping force. Inspect the insert seat and clamping screw for debris or wear before each insert change.
