The SECO 02960423 is a solid carbide square turning insert in the SCMT-M3 series, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the TP2501 manufacturer grade and features a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert has a neutral hand orientation, a chamfered and honed cutting edge style, a 7-degree relief angle, and a 0.0157 inch corner radius. With four usable cutting edges and screw-style holding, it offers consistent tool life and straightforward indexing without removing the toolholder from the machine.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces. It aligns with ISO material groups P, M, and K, covering material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35. The M3 chip breaker geometry promotes reliable chip control across a range of depths of cut up to 0.2343 inches, making it practical in both roughing and semi-finishing passes. It is typically used by machinists and CNC operators in production turning environments where repeatable tool geometry and coating durability are required.
Designed for use in SCMT-style toolholders that accept a square insert with a 0.25 inch inscribed circle, 7-degree clearance angle (clearance code C), and screw-style clamping. Compatible toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO SCMT060204 mounting specifications are appropriate for this insert.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing the insert. Seat the insert fully in the pocket before tightening the clamping screw, and confirm the cutting edge is clear of the pocket shim. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut for the insert geometry, and verify chip breaker orientation is correct for the programmed tool path before resuming cuts.
