The SECO 02960406 is a triangular solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal removal in CNC and manual turning applications. Carrying the TCMT32.51-F1 designation with manufacturer grade TP2501, this insert features a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr for extended tool life and thermal resistance at the cutting zone. The insert measures 0.6496 inches in length, has a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch corner radius, and delivers three usable cutting edges per insert. It is installed via screw-holding method and is suited for high-volume steel turning where consistent dimensional accuracy is required.
This insert is primarily applied to steel workpieces (ISO material code P) across P10, P20, P30, and P35 material grades. Secondary workpiece materials include stainless steel and cast iron. Typical applications include back turning, boring, facing, and general OD turning. The F1 chip breaker geometry and sharp cutting edge style make this insert well-suited for light-to-medium depth-of-cut passes in production environments. Installation is performed by licensed machinists or tool-room technicians on TCMT-compatible toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for TCMT-series screw-clamp toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. ISO code equivalent is TCMT16T304-F1. Industry standard number TCMT32.51-F1 applies.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a full stop and lockout-tagout procedures in place. Use the appropriate TCMT-compatible screw torque driver as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a fresh cutting edge. Follow shop-floor safety protocols and applicable ANSI B11 machine tool standards during setup.
