The SECO 02960405 is a TCMT-series indexable turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual turning applications. It features a triangular insert shape with a 60-degree included angle, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The insert is manufactured from solid carbide and carries a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, targeting the TP1501 material grade. With three usable cutting edges and a screw-holding method, it delivers consistent tool life across high-production turning cycles. The F1 chip breaker geometry produces a sharp cutting edge with positive rake, making it well-suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes on steel and cast iron workpieces.
This insert is used in external turning, boring, facing, and back-turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The primary target workpiece material is steel (ISO P-class), with secondary suitability for cast iron (ISO K-class) and hard materials (ISO H-class). The TP1501 grade and Duratomic coating provide thermal resistance and wear control at moderate-to-high cutting speeds. It is appropriate for both production shop environments and job-shop applications requiring a reliable general-purpose turning grade for ferrous workpiece families.
Designed to fit toolholders conforming to TCMT insert geometry with a screw-clamp holding method. Compatible with applications targeting ISO P10 and P20 material grades on steel, cast iron, and hard material workpieces. Verify toolholder pocket geometry against insert dimensions before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians on CNC or manual lathes with the machine fully powered down and in a safe, locked state before insert indexing or replacement. Use the correct torque wrench and insert screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-torque the clamping screw, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips, wear, or contamination before seating the insert. Follow the machine tool manufacturer's guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when setting cutting parameters.
